Países como Suecia, Australia, Finlandia, los Países Bajos, Dinamarca y Suiza sufrieron ata- ques tras más de cinco años sin inciden- tes. Alemania destacó negativamente, situándose en el puesto 27 del ranking mundial tras el atentado en el mercado navideño de Magdeburgo. En Reino Unido, los menores de 18 años representaron el 42 % de las 219 deten- ciones por terrorismo, reflejando una ten- dencia en la que uno de cada cinco sospe- chosos en Occidente es adolescente. Estos jóvenes, sin lazos con grupos organizados, pueden adoptar ideologías extremistas contradictorias. En Occidente, los ataques terroristas aumentaron un 63 %, siendo Europa la zona más afectada. En este continente, el número de atentados se duplicó, lle- gando a 67. En Europa, los adolescentes representaron la mayoría de los arrestos relacionados con el Estado Islámico.
