34 T he Central Library of Cantabria, in Santander, is hosting the tra- velling exhibition from the 11M: "Memoria de dolor y solidaridad" (Me- mory of Pain and Solidarity), until 24 January. Organised by the Victims of Terrorism Foundation, it now arrives in Santander thanks to the involvement of the Regional Ministry of the Presiden- cy, Justice, Security and Administrative Simplification of the Government of Cantabria, whose head, María Isabel Urrutia, is aware of the importance of "memory and truth as indispensable pillars. "Without ambiguity, without vagueness, without evasiveness and wi- thout embellishment, so that new ge- nerations do not forget and so that it does not happen again," in the words of Urrutia during the opening ceremony, held on 17 December. The exhibition is structured into nine sections, containing 67 images selected from the EFE Agency's documentary archive, complemented by an informa- tive video about the events of those sad days in Madrid. Prior to the Cantabrian capital, the exhibition has visited the ci- ties of Madrid (Plaza de la Armería and Maruja Mallo Exhibition Hall), Vito- ria —Memorial Centre for the Victims of Terrorism—, Azuqueca de Henares (Guadalajara), Haro (La Rioja), Bada- joz, Alcalá de Henares (Madrid), Burgos and Bilbao. It will continue its itinerary in January and February in San Sebas- tián, before moving on to Ciudad Real and Albacete. Among the 193 fatalities in the attacks of 11 March 2004 in Madrid (including Francisco Javier Torronteras, a member of the Special Operations Group (GEO), who died in the explosion at the flat in Leganés on 3 April 2004), none were from Cantabria, the only autonomous community, along with the autono- mous city of Ceuta, without fatalities in Islamist attacks in Spain or against Spaniards o u t s i d e our bor- ders. Nor did the te- rrorism carried out by other local groups, including the GRAPO, result in any fatalities origi- nating from Cantabria. However, 24 Cantabrians were killed in terrorist attacks, all of them commi- tted by the terrorist group ETA, and in tribute to their memory, the exhibition includes a final panel, an In Memoriam for all the victims, and especially for the Cantabrians killed by the terrorist group ETA in Cantabria and also out- side the region.
