51 and outreach projects in preserving an accurate memory, protecting historical truth and combating any attempt to tri- vialise or whitewash terrorism. The conference was closed by Maite Araluce, president of the AVT, and Mó- nica Muñoz, president of the APAVT. During the opening ceremony, the ins- titutional representatives agreed on the importance of keeping alive the memory of the victims of terrorism and of trans- mitting the values of coexistence, jus- tice and respect to young people. They also reaffirmed the institutions' com- mitment to the victims and the need to promote this type of activity in the field of education. Subsequently, AVT psychologist María Juan gave a contextualising presenta- tion entitled "What is the Association of Victims of Terrorism?", in which she explained the history of terrorism in Spain, the personal, family and social consequences it leaves in its wake, and the work that the AVT carries out throu- gh its various departments to support victims and promote a society based on memory and empathy. During this pre- sentation, audiovisual material on the activities carried out by the Association was also shown. The day continued with the round table discussion "The voice of the victims: life stories", also moderated by María Juan, in which three victims of terrorism sha- red their personal testimonies. Throu- gh their stories, attendees were able to learn first-hand how terrorism impacts not only those who suffer directly, but also their families, friends and commu- nities. The dialogue provided an opportunity to reflect on issues such as the social support received, the consequences for families and the importance of values such as non-violence, coexistence, res- pect and justice. The day concluded with a final reflec- tion by Maite Araluce, who thanked the institutions, educational centres and, especially, the victims who shared their stories for their participation. In her speech, the president of the AVT stressed that "only through memory and education can we build a more just society that is committed to the truth of the victims". With this activity, the AVT continues its work to raise awareness and social consciousness, especially among young people, promoting education in values and recognition of the victims of terro- rism as an essential pillar to ensure that such painful events are never repeated.
