FUNDACIÓN VÍCTIMAS DEL TERRORISMO 93 - ENGLISH

64 EXTREMADURAN ASSOCIATION OF VICTIMS OF TERRORISM I t is a time for coexistence, yes, it is necessary to bring together all the hopes of the citizens, that today are divided by the tremendously mean, petty and twisted rumours and gossip spread by certain political and social sectors. The victims of terrorism still need help to escape, to get out of that feedback loop that feeds the fear and anxiety that came over them on "D-day". Some because they lost someone they loved and needed; others because they were robbed of part of its physical integrity, only to then see it in the dark shadows of abandonment and loneliness on the part of administrations, politicians and, perhaps, society as well. That is why we do it: we devote the nec- essary time to managing their accom- paniment and support, and we do it for and on behalf of all those who deserve it, those who found themselves caught up, through no fault of their own, in that whirlwind of injustice that under- mines the normal daily life of a family torn apart and shattered by violence. These are the programmes that we, as a collective, carry out to facilitate social har- mony, so that we can reach the end of the days that each of us must overcome, after carrying backpacks full of adversities that weigh so heavily after having suffered the senselessness of terrorist violence, without any government knowing, being able or, perhaps, wanting to eradicate it. Thank you to the FVT for the support it does give us. VIII ACT OF RECOGNITION AND MEMORY IN EXTREMADURA Elga Alvear , in Cáceres. Here were the victims of terrorism from Ex- tremadura and many other autonomous communities in Spain. In line with the cul- ture of the Elga Alvear Museum, we seek to bring to fruition and highlight the most profound and just aspects of a better so- ciety, something we must radiate in or- der to reach beyond. Let us bear in mind that contemporary art can create messages for us about the world we live in, which we sometimes overlook or even forget. It is nec- essary to reinforce this and explore commu- nication and the message to promote and COEXISTENCE IN THE JERTE VALLEY reinforce social values, respect, tolerance and truth. The prestige of the speakers during these 17th Conferences, held in a hotel in the capital of Cáceres—in a room adjacent to the Uex, in the magnificent museummen- tioned above—brings us together in the place where the silence of the victims of terrorism who are no longer with us, due to the senselessness of terrorist violence, joins with that of all their relatives and those who were injured. Held together by that mark left behind and turned into sustained sensitivity shared by those men- tioned and a few others, we always end up granting that symbolic min- ute of deafening silence. A whisper of silence so that it can be heard as loudly as possible among all our col- leagues and victims of terrorism, real ones, not fake ones, to join in with the words spoken by Carolina Yuste, a fellow countrywoman from here, who left us with something like this: "Culture is a tool for change and for building fairer societies". That will be always the greatest glory and privilege we can bestow and share among all the speakers, participants and attendees at these ASEXVITE conferences in Cáceres. That thunderous minute remains in the memory of those who suffered violence directly, as well as in a part of society that saw the damage caused to the victims of terrorism as unjust at some point. But be- ware! Those who believe this must remain faithful to this principle of solidarity with the victims of terrorism, lest they fill their mouths with exorbitant rhetoric and, when they really have to show their support, se- cretly andwith a hook, press the button that curtails and limits the rights of this group. Oh, politicians! Politics must imply, for those who dedicate themselves to it, a chip of professionalism and, above all, responsi- bility, and never arrogance or haughtiness. It is also a GIFT that we democrats have, because in, for, and frompolitics, everything necessary is done—or should be done— to make life easier, that is, to 'make life easier' for citizens. Let us remember, in this case, the victims of terrorism, who made it quite difficult and ASSOCIATIONS AND FOUNDATIONS
