72 T his year marked the tenth anni- versary of the 13 November 2015 attacks in Paris. The city came to a standstill to remember that night when a series of coordinated attacks by jihadist fighters struck the French capital, leaving 130 people dead, 90 of them at the Bata- clan theatre during a concert that turned into a death trap. A decade later, that trauma continues to mark the life of the city and of all of Europe, as shown by the various commemorative events took place. The French capital was the scene of various commemorative events characterised by sobriety: minutes of silence, the laying of PARIS REMEMBERS THE VICTIMS OF THE BATACLAN TEN YEARS LATER flowers and the reading of the names of the victims at each of the affected locations. The official calendar of commemorations extended beyond the 13th, with events organised from days before and after the main date in Paris and the neighbouring suburb of Saint-Denis, in collaboration with victims' associations. The tour included the Stade de France, where the first explosions detonated; the terraces attacked in the districts of 10th and 11th arrondissements, and the faça- de of the Bataclan, following the same route as the attacks. At various points throughout the city, such as the Place de la République, residents and visitors left candles, flowers and notes in memory of those who lost their lives. French President Emmanuel Macron led the tributes, accompanied by relatives of the victims and survivors. During the day, Macron and other authorities laid wreaths and observed minutes of silence in front of the commemorative plaques at each site that was attacked. Sirens sounded again at different times events, this time as a sign of collective memory rather than alarm. In addition, several iconic buildings and mo- numents were lit up in the colours of the French flag as a gesture of remembrance. INTERNATIONAL
