Among the officials who wished to show their support for the victims of terrorism in the event held in Madrid on such a sig- nificant day was attended by: theMayor of Madrid, José Luis Martínez Almeida; the President of the Community of Ma- drid, Isabel Díaz Ayuso; the President of the Senate, Pedro Rollán; the Depu- ty Government Representative in Ma- drid, Pilar Trinidad; the Ombudsman, Ángel Gabilondo; the President of the People’s Party, Alberto Núñez Feijoo; and the President of theNational Court, Juan Manuel Fernández. At 12:00 noon, following a moving minute’s silence in memory of the victims of terrorism, the ceremony began. In her speech,Maite Araluce stated that "there can be no justice if victims are left with the impression that sentences are be- ing watered down, that accountability is fading, or that their pain is being treat- ed as a secondary concern. Reintegra- tion requires certain conditions: truth, remorse, cooperation with the justice system and reparation. Without these requirements, any leniency is perceived as impunity.
