FUNDACIÓN VÍCTIMAS DEL TERRORISMO 94 - ENGLISH

60 “My grandfather was not only a prominent political figure, but also someone with an enormous dedication to public service, great intellectual curiosity and a deep sense of justice” ` Text: Ana García On 6 February 1996, ETA murdered Fernando Múgica Herzog in the centre of San Sebastián. He was a lawyer and Socialist leader, a long-standing member of the Spanish Socialist Workers’ Party and a Member of Parliament committed to defending civil lib- erties and democratic coexistence in the Basque Country. He died early in the morning as he was on his way to his office, when a terrorist shot him at point-blank range in the middle of the street. Thirty years on, his granddaughter Claudia remembers the approachable, hard-working man who inspired her family, and emphasises the impor- tance of keeping alive the memory and dignity of those who fell victim to terrorism.
