FUNDACIÓN VÍCTIMAS DEL TERRORISMO 96 - ENGLISH
43 Our repeated denunciations extend beyond Vitoria-Gasteiz and add to those made this summer by COVITE, which detected 33 similar instances at other town and city festivals across the Basque Country and Navarre. In our opinion, these persist amid the indifference of part of society and, particularly, public institutions. Our criticism also has an ethical dimension. For the Fernando Buesa Foundation, coexistence must be built through acknowledgement of what happened and critical reflection on the violence perpetrated by ETA and its milieu, rather than silence about the past. We call for “sincere self-criticism” from both those directly involved in violen- ce and those who supported it: reflection essential to progressing towards truly healthy coexistence. For our Foundation, keeping victims’ memory alive and working to delegitimise ETA’s terrorism does not mean reopening wounds, but honouring those who suffered them and committing to ensuring their pain is never forgotten. It means looking towards the future and working for a society founded on the defence of freedom, coexistence and democratic values. ASSOCIATIONS AND FOUNDATIONS
