FUNDACIÓN VÍCTIMAS DEL TERRORISMO 96 - ENGLISH
52 ASSOCIATIONS AND FOUNDATIONS The course will examine international migration from a global, interdisciplinary perspective, considering its different set- tings, causes and consequences and, espe- cially, the vulnerabilities migrants, refu- gees and asylum seekers may face. We will discuss dignity, rights, integration, international protection, human traffic- king, discrimination and coexistence. We will also address the need to counter sim- plistic narratives presenting migration as a threat and to distinguish properly between migration and phenomena such as terro- rism or extremist violence. As in previous editions, we want a course for listening, learning and debate. There will be lectures, expert panels, participant presentations and opportunities for dia- logue between lecturers and students. It will take place at the University of Alcalá in October or November, as an intensive two-day session. The Foundation also wishes to maintain its commitment to specialised training for young people. As part of the course, two tuition scholarships will therefore be awarded to students on the Master’s in Fundamental Rights at the Gregorio Peces-Barba Human Rights Institute of Carlos III University of Madrid. Through this initiative, we want human rights education to offer both a setting for reflection and a concrete opportuni- ty to support those wishing to make this knowledge part of their professional and academic future. A NEW OCCASION FOR COEXISTENCE AND TOLERANCE November will also bring one of the Foun- dation’s longest-running activities: the 22nd “Coexistence and Tolerance in To- day’s Society” Lecture. Since 2005, this annual series has offe- red opportunities to listen to and engage with figures from widely differing fields: universities, culture, journalism, justice, cooperation and public institutions. Each edition addresses a particular current is- sue, but all share the same concern: how we can improve coexistence and streng- then democratic values. This year, José Luis Rey Pérez, lecturer in the Philosophy of Law at Comillas Ponti- fical University (ICADE), will join us to reflect on animal rights and our relations- hip with animals. The discussion invites us to look beyond strictly legal questions and ask about our responsibility towards other living beings, the limits of our ac- tions and the model of society we wish to build. The lecture will take place on Wednes- day 18 November 2026 at 19:00 in the International Conference Room of the University of Alcalá’s Rectorate Building. As usual, the speaker’s address will be fo- llowed by discussion with the audience. For our Foundation, these lectures are more than academic events. Above all, they are encounters. We want those atten- ding to listen, ask questions, share views and participate in an open conversation about the problems affecting our society. We therefore particularly invite our friends, collaborators, supporters and this magazine’s readers to save the date and join us. CHILDREN ALSO BUILD COEXISTENCE As the year draws to a close, one of the Foundation’s best-loved activities will arrive: the 21st Children’s Festival for Tolerance. During November and De- cember, participating schools in the Henares Corridor will once again take centre stage in a project using creativity to teach values. RODOLFO BENITO SAMANIEGO FOUNDATION
