20 MIR COLLABORATION S peaking to an audience full of young people is never an easy task, especially when it involves recounting an experience as traumatic as having suffered a terrorist attack. This is the challenge faced by the vic- tims who participate in the testimony activity in the classrooms of the Edu- cational Project on Memory and Pre- vention of Terrorism , coordinated by the Directorate-General for Support to Victims of Terrorism of the Ministry of the Interior. The Memory and Prevention of Te- rrorism project was launched in 2017 in collaboration with the Memorial Centre Foundation, the Victims of Te- rrorism Foundation, the Ministry of Education and Vocational Training, and the Ministry of the Interior. It currently has 52 participating victims who take their testimony to educational centres throughout the country, except in those regions that already have their own pro- gramme: Navarre, the Basque Country, Castile and León, and the Valencian Community. It is essential for the project to incor- porate new victims or relatives from di- fferent parts of Spain who wish to share their testimony with students. In order to facilitate this work and offer effecti- ve communication tools, workshops on effective, affective and persuasive com- munication are organised each year at the headquarters of the Ministry of the Interior for victims of terrorism inte- rested in participating in the classroom testimony activity. The last workshop, held on 6 October, focused on helping participants convey their experiences in such a way that, in addition to fulfilling the programme's objectives —preserving the memory of victims of terrorism, deepening un- derstanding of the phenomenon of te- rrorism in Spain and helping to prevent violent radicalisation among minors—, they could turn the recounting of a traumatic event into a healing process. The training, co-financed by the Euro- pean Union's Internal Security Fund and led by the company EquipoExac, was attended by 15 participants, victims and relatives of various attacks and te- rrorist organisations, whose stories enrich the project by showing the scale and severity of terrorism in our country. These workshops prepare participants to construct a testimony that is capa- ble of generating empathy among stu- dents of 4th year of secondary school and sixth form through stories based on storytelling techniques. During the session, this teaching methodology was specifically worked on to ensure un- derstanding and emotional impact on a young audience. The management of possible questions from students was also addressed, offering strategies that allow them to respond comfortably and assertively.
