28 EXHIBITION EL DESCANSO BARAJAS A fter its stay in the Valencian mu- nicipality of Utiel, the exhibition "El Descanso. 40 years since the first mass jihadist attack in Spain " re- turned to Madrid, to the district of Ba- rajas, the scene of that brutal attack four decades ago against the restaurant that is still open today in its original location. From Tuesday 2 December, the exhibition was on display at the Gloria Fuertes Cul- tural Centre, where an emotional opening ceremony took place. The event was atten- ded by victims of the attack and various authorities, including: ` Juan Benito Valenciano, president of the Victims of Terrorism Foundation (FVT) ` Juan Antonio Peña Ochoa , counci- llor-president of Barajas From Utiel (Valencia) to the district of Barajas THE EXHIBITION EL DESCANSO RETURNS "HOME", 40 YEARS AFTER THE FIRST JIHADIST ATTACK IN SPAIN ` Borja Fanjul, president of the City Council Plenary and councillor-president of Moncloa ` Montserrat Torija Noguerales, Di- rector General of the Victims Support Office Ministry of the Interior ` Sonia Ramos Piñeiro, Deputy Direc- tor General of the Victims' Commissioner of the Community of Madrid Also in attendance were councillors from various political parties, such as María Caso (PSOE), Javier Ortega Smith (Vox) and José Luis Nieto (Más Madrid), along with the managing director of the FVT, María Zarauz, the exhibition curator, Manuel Aguilar, and representatives from BBVA, the patron of the exhibition. THE EXHIBITION "COMES HOME" Councillor-President Juan Peña opened the event by highlighting that the exhi- bition, after touring part of Spain, "has finally come home" to the district that suffered the attack, the first jihadist attack in Spain. An exhibition "that will allow the residents of Barajas to learn through images and documents what that day was like, when 18 people of different origins died and more than 80 were injured". Councillor Peña went on to say that "the Municipal Council welcomes this exhibi- tion with the unanimous support of all the political groups that make up the District Council," while thanking the "Victims of Terrorism Foundation for its work to this exhibition, not only for the victims, but also for its cultural aspect."
