FUNDACIÓN VÍCTIMAS DEL TERRORISMO 93 - ENGLISH

31 Author of an extensive biography on ji- hadist terrorism and radicalisation, his research has shed light on the perpetra- tors and causes of the 11 March 2004 at- tacks in Madrid. His latest book, 11-M. Pudo evitarse ( 11-M. It Could Have Been Avoided ), coinciding with the twentie- th anniversary of the attacks, is a good example of this. RECOGNITION FOR AN INVESTIGATIVE JOURNALIST Also by unanimous decision of the jury, this year's Fernando Delgado Journa- lismAward went to journalist José Ma- ría Irujo Amatria , one of Spain's most prominent investigative journalists. With a degree in Information Sciences from the University of Navarra, he has devo- ted more than four decades to journa- lism, specialising in terrorism (including ETA, jihadist and far-right terrorism), institutional corruption and internatio- nal espionage. SPECIAL MENTION FOR "UNCONDITIONAL SUPPORT" FOR THE VICTIMS OF TERRORISM He is another authoritative voice in the fight against the global phenomenon of jihadist terrorism and radicalisation at the international level, and, as an advi- sor on counter-terrorism policy to the Ministry of the Interior, a pioneer in the adaptation of internal security structures to the threat of jihadist terrorism. Closely linked to the victims of terrorism, as well as to the associations and founda- tions that represent them, he is a staunch defender of the role that victims of te- rrorism, specifically victims of jihadist terrorism, can play in raising social awa- reness of the problem and in prevention, from schools and universities to places of worship and prisons. For Reinares, "no one is better placed than the victims of jihadist terrorism to delegitimise the normative justifications for such violence and confront the doc- trine of violent Salafism, which denies those who do not share it their status as human beings and their right to life". And it is this outstanding work in repor- ting and investigation, where the victims of terrorism and the importance of kee- ping the true history of terrorism alive have always occupied a prominent place, that the Jury of the Victims of Terrorism Foundation Awards values. The impor- tance of a professional career characteri- sed by rigour, courage and commitment to the truth, which makes him an indis- pensable figure in contemporary journa- lism, rightly recognised with prestigious awards such as the Ortega y Gasset Prize, the Javier Bueno Prize and the King of Spain International Journalism Prize, among others. In addition, at this 22nd edition of the awards, the jury awarded the 2025 Spe- cial Mention Prize to the RTVE Sym- phony Orchestra and Choirs , a "fair and well-deserved award that recognises unconditional and ongoing support for the victims of terrorism," in the words of Juan Benito, president of the Victims of Terrorism Foundation, for whom "the annual In Memoriam concert for the victims of terrorism is a must for the community, which would be unthinka- ble if it were not for the professional and personal dedication of those who form part of the institution now being honoured". Year after year, concert after concert, their dedication and generosity towards the victims of terrorism is a source of satisfaction and joy for those who, with this recognition, show their gratitude for such an invaluable commitment. And to close the section on award win- ners, the Ana María Vidal Abarca school awards, a city without vio- lence , prizes for primary, secondary and sixth form students, as well as teachers. These awards convey numerous expres- sions of support and closeness through the work carried out by students from all over Spain, who in this 2025 edition have recognised: EDUCATION, CULTURE AND COEXISTENCE
