But the long list of people murdered by the terrorist group over its nearly six decades of terror includes another twenty-one Cantabrians killed in attacks outside the autonomous community. The first was the Prime Minister, Admi- ral LUIS CARRERO BLANCO , a na- tive of Santoña who was assassinated in Madrid on 20 December 1973. The last was JOSÉ LUIS CASO CORTINES , a native of Comillas and councillor for the Popular Party in the Rentería Town Council, assassinated in Irún (Guipúz- coa) on 11 December 1997.
