FUNDACIÓN VÍCTIMAS DEL TERRORISMO 93 - ENGLISH
4 EDITORIAL NOTE 2025 is coming to an end, and for the Victims of Terrorism Foundation it has been marked by two significant milestones. The first is our traditional Christmas awards gala, now in its 22nd year, held at the Mutua Madrileña Au- ditorium. The second was the opening at the Central Library of Cantabria (Santander) of a new travelling exhi- bition entitled The 11 March Attacks: Memory of Pain and Solidarity, designed to mark the 20th anniversary of the bloodiest attack on European soil, on 11 March 2004 against trains in Madrid. Two years after its creation, this exhi- bition has travelled to Madrid, Vitoria, Azuqueca de Henares, Haro, Badajoz, Alcalá de Henares, Burgos, Bilbao and Santander, where it will remain until 24 January. Its arrival in San Sebastián is already scheduled for 16 January and its transfer to the Universities of Ciu- dad Real and Albacete in the first quar- ter of 2026. As reported in this issue, the 2025 awards were shared by General Miguel Ángel Ballesteros and Professor Fer- nando Reinares (Adolfo Suárez Human Rights Award); José María Iruj o (Fer- nando Delgado Journalism Award); the RTVE Symphony Orchestra and Choir (Special Mention); and students from the Calasancio, San Pablo CEU Mon- tepríncipe and Peñalar schools, as well as the Ramón y Cajal and Prado Santo Domingo secondary schools, together with teacher Tomás Antonio Andreu González. The FVT would like to reit- erate its congratulations to all of them. These awards recognise those who, through their effort and commitment, MEMORY, JUSTICE AND THE FUTURE contribute to keeping alive the memory of the victims, which is why this Foun- dation exists and will continue to exist. Preserving their dignity, ensuring that their truth is never silenced, and that justice, coexistence, and freedom pre- vail in the face of any form of violence are our main tasks. We are deeply grateful to those who dedicate their time and vocation to conveying what happened, especially to younger people. Their educational work is essential to honour the victims and prevent radicalisation, promoting a free, democratic society that is aware of its history. Memory is both an act of justice and an instrument of prevention. The second event mentioned above re- flects the Foundation's commitment to due remembrance. Since 2020, with the exhibition Terror on the front page. 60 years of terrorism in Spain through the press , we work on commemorative exhibitions as an essential tool for pre- serving memory and conveying in im- ages what has happened in our country since 1960, the year of the murder of the first victim of terrorism in Spain, little Begoña Urroz. This work has intensified significant- ly over the last two years. This was the case last year on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the attack on Calle del Correo, against the Rolando café, with the exhibition Attack on Calle del Correo. Fifty images for remembrance, which joined the aforementioned exhi- bition on the 11 March attacks on a tour of different autonomous communities.
