30 RULES FOR THE 2026 SCHOOL AWARDS T he Victims of Terrorism Founda- tion is a state-run public sector foundation whose aim is demo- cratic values, the defence of human rights, pluralism and citizens’ freedom, as well as to foster a better understanding in all spheres of the situation of the community of victims of terrorism in our society. To achieve these objectives, the Foun- dation organises the annual Ana María Vidal-Abarca School Awards, under the slogan “A city without violence”. This is a flag- ship project of the Foundation, for which the rules for a new edition have recently been published. This is an important awards competition for the FVT, a channel through which, over the years, it has received numerous expressions of support and solidarity, reflected in the work produced by the pupils. Messag- es of enthusiasm, peace and hope created by the youngest members of society, and conveyed through the FVT to the victims themselves. In short, this is yet another tool within the educational project aimed at raising awareness in the classroom about the role of victims of terrorism. The project has been running for almost twenty years, dur- ing which time more than 50,000 pupils from over 400 schools have taken part and worked to promote peaceful coexistence, with no place for violence, helping us to build the values and attitudes that are es- sential for achieving peace. COMPETITION RULES Entries must respond to the theme “A city without violence”, focusing on aspects relat- ed to the Foundation’s own objectives. They may be submitted by teachers, by schools on behalf of pupils, or directly by pupils in Primary Education, Compulsory Secondary Education and Sixth Form. The following award categories are established: • Category for the best teaching project for teachers of Sixth Form and Compulsory Sec- ondary Education. Prize of 500 euros. • Category for the production of audiovisual material (video or podcast). Prize of 500 euros. • Essay category. Prize worth 500 euros. • Drawing category for primary school pupils. Prize of 500 eu- ros. • Drawing category for pupils in Years 7 and 8 of compulsory secondary education. Prize of 500 euros. Teaching projects must be submitted in a re- port of no more than six pages in length, specifying the year group for which the project is intended, as well as the curric- ulum, methodology and teaching resources to be used for the project. Call for entries for the 2025/2026 school awards ANA MARÍA VIDAL-ABARCA, “A CITY WITHOUT VIOLENCE” Regarding audiovisual materials, videos must not exceed one minute in length and must be submitted in a digital format ac- cessible via mobile devices and computers; podcasts must not exceed 15 minutes in length and must also be submitted in an accessible format. Finally, written entries must not exceed six pages, on A4 paper, single-sided, dou- ble-spaced (12-point font); and drawings may be produced on any material. The deadline for submitting entries is 30 September 2026; any entries postmarked before that date will be accepted.
