FUNDACIÓN VÍCTIMAS DEL TERRORISMO 94 - ENGLISH
47 T he Foundation held further sessions of the lecture series “Words of Freedom” in Málaga, Valverde del Camino (Huelva) and Es- tepa (Seville), thanks to the agreement signed with the Regional Ministry of Educational Development and Voca- tional Training of the Regional Gov- ernment of Andalusia. Among the various objectives of this agreement is to bring the testimonies of victims of terrorism to public schools in the au- tonomous community, so that young people can strengthen their learning and democratic awareness. To mark the end of 2025, during which twelve sessions of the lecture series were held, on 5 December 2025, the foundation visited Málaga, specifically the IES Mediterráneo and THE SERIES OF CONFERENCES ORGANISED BY THE JIMÉNEZ-BECERRIL FOUNDATION ARRIVES IN MÁLAGA, VALVERDE DEL CAMINO AND ESTEPA FOR THE FIRST TIME “WORDS OF FREEDOM” the IES Pablo Picasso, attended by Fran- cisco Javier López, vice-president of the Association of State Security Forces and Bodies of Victims of Terrorism and of the Foundation for Victims of Terrorism. Francisco Javier was seriously injured during an ETA attack on the Civil Guard barracks in Galdácano (Vizcaya), leaving him with a number of long-term effects and a personal experience that has deeply moved both the students and the teach- ing staff at both schools. He encouraged all of them never to give up in the face of adversity, just as he himself did after his experiences in the Basque Country. The ‘Words of Freedom’ lecture series be- gan this year, 2026, on 28 January in the town of Valverde del Camino (Huelva), where the IES Don Bosco is located. More than 50 pupils in Year 10 and the sixth form at this school have had the opportunity to hear the tes- timony of Martina Vidal, manager of the Andalusian Association of Victims of Terrorism and daughter of Joaquín Vidal, president of the as- sociation and a victim of the attack carried out by the terrorist group ETA on 28 June 1991 at Sevilla 1 prison. The attack left four people dead and dozens injured, including prisoners, visiting relatives and prison officers, among whom was Joaquín himself, who worked there. In addition to her personal testimony, and as manager of the AAVT, Martina has emphasised the importance of psychological sup- port for victims, as their experiences have left a series of lasting effects that persist over time. For this reason, it is essential that society does not forget those years or the people who suf- fered from intolerance and terrorist violence. On 2 February, at IES Ostippo in Es- tepa (Seville), the second session of this year’s series took place, where Teresa Jiménez-Becerril, First Depu- ty to the Ombudsman People, shared her testimony regarding the attack that the terrorist group ETA car- ried out against her brother Alberto Jiménez-Becerril and her sister-in- law Ascensión García on 30 January 1998 with around 180 students from Year 10 and Sixth Form, instilling values of remembrance, dignity and freedom among the youngest mem- bers of the school community. The event was attended by the school’s headteacher, Santiago Blanco, the Secretary General of the Regional Delegation for Educational Develop- ment and Vocational Training, Rafael Martin Humanes, the mayor of Es- tepa, Antonio Jesús Muñoz Quirós, and Asunción Llamas Rangel, Secre- tary General.
