44 FERNANDO BUESA BLANCO FOUNDATION O n May 17, within the Interna- tional Poetry Festival "Poets in May," held annually in Vi- toria-Gasteiz, the Fernando Buesa Foundation and the Memorial Center for Victims of Terrorism organized an event to highlight poetry and the rights that all of us, as human beings, have and must defend. The event, held in the Plaza de la Me- moria in the capital of Álava, featured 15 young people from Corazonistas school in Vitoria-Gasteiz reciting poems by Adam Zagajewski, Mario Benedetti, Juan Gelman, Wisława Szymborska, Idea Vilariño, Khaled Juma, Gustavo Pereira, Gabriel Aresti, Ruth Marijuan, Victoria Santa Cruz, Enrique Gracia "YOUNG VOICES: poetry for human rights" Students from Corazonistas Vitoria school recited poems dedicated to human rights and victims of terrorism in the 14th edition of "Poets in May." Trinidad, and Eduardo Galeano. Each poem recited was preceded by the rea- ding of one of the 30 articles of the Uni- versal Declaration of Human Rights, which this year marks 78 years since its proclamation. As the articles were read, they were hung at the back of the stage, creating a tapestry that combined verses and rights. The musical accompaniment was provided by Pablo Gutiérrez (dou- ble bass) and Patxi Lebrancon (drums), who accompanied the event with origi- nal music inspired by the feelings pro- duced in them by the verses recited by the young people.
