74 TESTIMONY "You learn to live with loss, but it never disappears; there is always an absence that stays with you" ` Text: Ana García DAUGHTER OF JOSÉ MARÍA LÓPEZ-MENCHERO MORAGA Pilar López-Menchero For more than two decades, Pilar has kept the memory of her father alive through family stories, shared conversations, and those small details that resist the passage of time. José María López-Menchero Moraga, a native of Daimiel, had built his life in Alcalá de Henares with his family, where he had lived for seventeen years. A warrant officer in the Spanish Army, he wor- ked at the Horse Breeding Headquarters, a job closely connected to his passion for horses. He was 44 when, on the morning of March 11, 2004, he boarded the 7:10 train bound for Atocha, never imagining that this journey would be his last. Today, his daughter remembers him as a man devoted to his loved ones, always ready to learn and interested in everything around him. Computers, nature documentaries, and Real Madrid matches formed part of a life whose mark remains in the memory of those who loved him.
