69 THE ASSOCIATION OF VICTIMS OF TERRORISM IN CASTILLA Y LEÓN PARTICIPATED IN THE SERIES OF CONFERENCES FIGHT AGAINST TERRORISM AND COMPREHENSIVE SUPPORT FOR ITS VICTIMS The president of the Association of Vic- tims of Terrorism in Castile and León (AvtCyL), Sebastián Nogales, participa- ted in the series of conferences entitled The fight against terrorism and com- prehensive support for its victims, held at the Faculty of Law of the University of Valladolid. During his speech at the round table on "Protection, support and recogni- tion for victims", Nogales stressed the importance of strengthening compre- hensive support policies, maintaining institutional and social commitment to victims of terrorism, and preserving their memory and dignity. The meeting brought together experts, institutional representatives and aca- demics to analyse the challenges of justice, protection and memory for vic- tims of terrorism. The round table on "Memory and dignity for victims" fea- tured Jon Viar, filmmaker, playwright and actor, son of former ETA member Iñaki Viar, and Luis Heredero, son of Colonel Heredero, who was murdered by the terrorist group; a testimony that highlights the value of dialogue and memory. THE PRESIDENT OF THE AVTCYL PARTICIPATED IN THE 17TH CONFERENCE ON MENTAL HEALTH AND VICTIMS OF TERRORISM IN ALICANTE The Association of Victims of Terror- ism of Castile and León (AvtCyL), to- gether with the Regional Government of Castile and León, brought the testi- mony of José Antonio Ortega Lara, vic- tim of a 532-day kidnapping by ETA, to the students of the Nuestra Señora del Rosario School (Los Dominicos) in Valladolid, as part of the programme Testimony of Victims of Terrorism in the Classroom. During his talk, Ortega Lara shared his personal experience with the stu- dents, conveying the human impact of The president of the Association of Vic- tims of Terrorism of Castile and León (AvtCyL), Sebastián Nogales, participated in the 17th Conference on Mental Health and Victims of Terrorism, organised by the Association of Victims of Terrorism of the Valencian Community (AVTCV) in Alicante. At the table of association representa- tives, Nogales highlighted the work car- ried out by AvtCyL in caring for, support- ing and accompanying victims, as well as its collaboration with other regional associations within the framework of the Federation of Associations of Victims of Terrorism. The event brought together professionals, organisations and victims of terrorism from different regions, and addressed the impor- tance of mental health and psychological support in the recovery process for victims. THE AVTCYL AND THE REGIONAL GOVERNMENT OF CASTILLA Y LEÓN BROUGHT ORTEGA LARA'S TESTIMONY TO STUDENTS IN VALLADOLID terrorism and the importance of mem- ory, truth and dignity for victims. The meeting allowed students to reflect on the consequences of terrorist violence and reinforce values of democratic co- existence and respect for human rights. The programme Testimony of Victims of Terrorism in the Classroom is an ini- tiative developed by AvtCyL in collabo- ration with the Regional Government of Castile and León, with the aim of bring- ing young people closer to the reality of terrorism, combating oblivion and edu- cating critical and empathetic citizens.
