51 one against civilians, and that both were equally grave; “an attack such as that should have left the terrorist group com- pletely without justification, although it continued to enjoy considerable support for a long time. The excuse of a ‘good, anti-Franco’ ETA has no justifi- cation whatsoever, as 95% of its crimes took place after Franco’s death.” For his part, Sebastián Nogales thanked the Spanish Police Foundation and the Na- tional Police Academy in Ávila for their collaboration on this initiative and ex- plained to those present the AvtCyL’s lines of action, asking them that in their professional careers “the word dignity be your compass. We victims do not ask for revenge; we ask for justice and re- membrance, and for that, we need you”. AVTCYL HELD A MEETING WITH PSOE LEADERS IN CASTILLA Y LEÓN The Association of Victims of Terror- ism of Castile and León (AvtCyL) held a meeting at its headquarters with the Secretary for Organisation of the Span- ish Socialist Workers’ Party (PSOE) in Castile and León, Daniel de la Rosa, and the Secretary for Institutional Policy of the PSOE in Burgos, Salvador Sierra. During the meeting, the president of AvtCyL, Sebastián Nogales, high- lighted the need to update the Law on Victims of Castile and León, passed in 2017, with the aim of adapting it to the current reality and strengthening the rights, care and support for victims of terrorism. He also outlined to the So- cialist representatives the concerns and needs of victims of terrorism in Castile and León, emphasising the importance of continuing to make progress in their recognition and protection. THE PRESIDENT OF THE AVTCYL ATTENDED THE CEREMONY IN MEMORY OF COMMANDER LUCIANO CORTIZO ALONSO IN LEÓN The president of the Association of Vic- tims of Terrorism of Castile and León (Avt- CyL), Sebastián Nogales, at- tended the commemorative ceremo- ny held in León to mark the thirtieth anniversary of the death of Artillery Commander Luciano Cortizo Alonso, who was murdered by the terrorist or- ganisation ETA whilst on duty on 22 December 1995. The tribute honoured his memory and reaffirmed the values of truth, dignity and respect for all vic- tims of terrorism. THE ‘TESTIMONIES OF VICTIMS OF TERRORISM IN THE CLASSROOM’ PROGRAMME REACHES THIRTEEN SCHOOLS Over the past few months, thir- teen secondary schools and colleg- es in various provinces of Castile and León have been visited by a victim of terrorism to share their testimony with pupils, thanks to the programme “Testimony of Victims of Terrorism in the Class- room”, promoted by the Regional Government of Castile and León and the Association of Victims of Terrorism of Castile and León. This project aims to bring stu- dents closer to the reality of terrorism and the value of vic- tims’ testimonies, helping to combat the risk of forgetting and to foster a commitment to democratic values.
