52 ANDALUSIAN ASSOCIATION OF VICTIMS OF TERRORISM B etween social awareness activities, support for the community at re- gional and national levels, and outreach to the state security forces, the first quarter of 2026 has been particu- larly busy for the Andalusian Association of Victims of Terrorism (AAVT), which is deeply rooted in civil society after three decades of work. In the first two months of the year, the manager of the AAVT, Martina Vidal Gómez, represented the asso- ciation at the official events marking the 202nd anniversary of the National Police – in January in Córdoba and in February in Seville – the latter along- side the Chief of Police for Western An- dalusia, Andrés Martín Garrido Cancio. At the end of January (on the 28th), as part of the ‘Words of Freedom’ lecture series organised by the Alberto Jimén- ez-Becerril Foundation, Vidal Gómez shared her testimony as a victim of ter- rorism with students at IES Don Bosco in Valverde del Camino, Huelva. And on 30 January, she joined the tributes held in Seville in memory of Alberto Jimén- ez-Becerril and Ascensión García Ortiz, marking the 28th anniversary of their murders at the hands of the terrorist group ETA. As a respected member of Andalusian civil society, the association also accept- ed the invitation to the breakfast brief- ing organised by Fórum Europa Tribu- na Andalucía, held in Seville, where the keynote speaker was Loles López, the Regional Minister for Social Inclusion, Youth, Family and Equality of the Re- gional Government of Andalusia. Solidarity with the community of victims of terrorism across Spain has also been a key focus of the AAVT’s work during these first few months of the year. This March, the voices of the Anda- lusian victims joined the rest of the group in Madrid, both at the 24th Concert in Tribute to the Victims of Terrorism, presided over at the Au- ditorio Nacional in Madrid by Their Majesties the King and Queen of Spain, and at the official commem- orative event for the European Day for the Victims of Terrorism and the 22nd Anniversary of 11M, on the Paseo del General Martínez Cam- pos, attended by the president of the AAVT, Joaquín Vidal Ortiz, and the manager, Martina Vidal Gómez.
