58 ASSOCIATION OF VICTIMS OF TERRORISM OF CASTILLA Y LEON versity students about terrorism and to train future journalists in a responsible approach to memory and victims. The project incorporates active learning methodologies, training experiences, the creation of journalistic content, and open educational resources, in collaboration with institutions specializing in memory and victims of terrorism. The morning continued with the round- table discussion “How art constructs na- rrative through documentaries, fiction, and literature,” featuring Iñaki Arteta, documentary filmmaker and photogra- pher; María Luisa Gutiérrez, producer of *La infiltrada* and CEO of Bowfinger Int. Pictures; and Fernando Rueda, journalist and writer. The panel was moderated by Pedro Lechuga Mallo, journalist, docu- mentary filmmaker, and former dean of the College. It addressed the role of film, literature, and audiovisual narratives in transmitting the memory of terrorism and in preventing discourses of trivia- lization, manipulation, or equidistance. In the afternoon session, held in the Gra- duation Hall, the conference continued with the panel “Tributes to Terrorists: An Ethical, Democratic, and Legal Challen- ge,” featuring Eduardo Mateo, Head of Projects and Communication at the Fer- nando Buesa Foundation; Inés Gaviria, Head of Communication and Projects at COVITE; and Florencio de Marcos Ma- druga, Professor of Criminal Law at the University of Valladolid and a judge spe- cializing in prison oversight. The panel was moderated by Coral Arangüena Fa- nego, Professor of Procedural Law at the University of Valladolid. The final panel, entitled “The Victims’ Narrative,” focused on the voices and experiences of those who have suffered directly from terrorism. The panelists in- cluded Juan Francisco Benito, president of the Victims of Terrorism Foundation; Marceliano Gutiérrez Rodríguez, hono- rary chief commissioner of the National Police; and María Caballero Martínez, representative of the Tomás Caballero Foundation. The panel was moderated by Rosa Masegosa, journalist and associate professor of Journalism at the University of Valladolid. The Third Regional Conference on Te- rrorism in Castile and León highlighted the importance of keeping the memory of the victims alive, especially at a time when university students belong to a ge- neration with no direct memory of the years of greatest terrorist activity. From this perspective, the university emerges as an essential space for transmitting knowledge, fostering critical thinking, and preventing ignorance from leading to indifference, trivialization, or manipu- lation of the narrative. With this third edition, the conference reinforces its commitment to continuity and its role as a meeting point for ins- titutions, victims, faculty, students, and professionals in journalism and law. Its consolidation confirms the need to conti- nue working, from within the classroom, on a democratic memory based on truth, justice, the dignity of victims, and the de- fense of coexistence.
